Now that Grady is a year, I would say that we’ve been smooth sailing with Baby Led Weaning for a solid 5 months. One of the things that Grady’s pediatrician stresses is to offer him a variety of foods. I feel like I have it covered. I cook every night for my family anyway, so switching out ingredients for low sodium options was a breeze. Whipping up breakfast is no big deal because I have to feed myself. And lunch? I just make meals in bulk and freeze them. That way I’m not always in the kitchen. Below is a look at what Grady ate in a week. I’ve included links to the meals and I’ve also marked what I freeze to make things easier for me. The photographs aren’t all that fancy or “blogger appropriate” but I don’t have time to stage a photo when I have a kid screaming to be fed.

Thursday

Lunch: picnic at the park included peanut butter and jelly (jelly was the homemade raspberry jam from the freezer), veggies and ranch, grapes, cheerios with yogurt melts
Dinner: grilled chicken, balsamic roasted potatoes and asparagus, corn, watermelon
Friday
Breakfast: yogurt bowl (yogurt, apple pie bar sprinkled as the granola, blueberries)
Lunch: grilled chicken nuggets from Chick fil A, pea and corn fritters (freezer), mango
Dinner: (not pictured) We ordered a pizza this night. Anytime we order a pizza, Grady gets his own mini pizza with a sweet potato crust. I make a stack of them, wrap them individually, and freeze them. I pull them out on pizza night and just top it with pizza sauce that I’ve frozen in ice cube trays, mushrooms, chopped spinach and mozzarella cheese.
After looking at the meals from this week, I realized I cooked a lot of beef and chicken. No, these are not the only meats I give my child. He’s also had turkey, pork and sausage; just not any fish or shellfish. We were waiting until his one year appointment to get the go from his doctor. Now that he’s a year, I’ll start adding those to the menu. I’ve also started adding different cheeses and dipping sauces. Once the season changes, I’ll be able to introduce him to different fruits and veggies. It’s fun introducing him to new foods and it’s easy because I’m not making separate meals for him every night! Hopefully this gives you some ideas on how to feed your little one!
XO,
Ashley
