Fall was always such a foreign thing while growing up in Florida. Yet it was the one season that always held so many memories for me. It’s when my mom would bring out the “fall decor” and we would have campouts in the woods because the heat finally wasn’t so sweltering. We would make caramel apples and dad would hook a trailer to the back of the truck for hayrides.
Now we have our own family and we wanted to start making memories with our son. Apple picking is an activity I NEVER took part in. As a matter of fact, I had never gone apple picking until last year, when Grady was only weeks old. Scott is in the agriculture industry and Fifer Farms just so happen to be one of his customers. So we decided to make a trip to Delaware to check it out.
It was well worth the drive. There were a plethora of things for the kids to do. A bounce pad, corn maze, tractor rides, petting farm animals…you name it!
After Grady enjoyed the kid’s activities, a tractor gave us a ride to the orchard!
Apple picking is something we hope that Grady will continue to enjoy and create memories like we did growing up. It’s a tradition we want to continue as long as we’re living where we are.
Now that we have all the apples, now it’s time to bake all the things! These are some of the apple recipes that my crew loves!
Apple Dumplings (these are great to freeze!)
Bloomin’ Baked Apples (these are always a request from Scott but they never turn out like the picture – still delicious though!)
Apple Crisp (a scoop of vanilla ice cream cuts back on the sweetness 😉
Easy Skillet Fried Apples (vanilla ice cream, again)
Apple Turnovers (I made these today and they turned out DELICIOUS! <See below> They were also super easy to make.)
Maybe this will give you some inspiration to make memories of your own!
