Christmas Dinner

Santa salt and pepper shakers

I always host a Christmas dinner party. Whether it’s for ten people or five, I host! For my tablescape this year, I used some pieces that I already had and found some items for super cheap since it was so close to Christmas.

I bought the tartan plaid napkins last year after Christmas for super cheap at a local market. I linked them, but I actually paid WAY less for the price I’m seeing them for online. I’m pretty sure I got the berry napkin rings at Home Goods. But I found these napkin rings and they’re also really cute! The gold chargers I bought from Michael’s YEARS ago and they always come back out with them every season. For the centerpiece down the middle of the table: all I did was buy two garlands and twisted them together. They were 65% off and didn’t cost much. I already had the berry and antler picks and just stuck those in randomly once the garland was on the table. I found these gold votive candle holders at Pottery Barn for a steal of a deal and just nestled them into the middle of the garland. I also added wreaths to the backs of my chairs this year. I found the wreaths for 65% off at Michael’s and instead of using the plain gross grain ribbon that came with the wreath I used a tartan plain ribbon I found while shopping (that was also 65% off).

What was on the menu:

Mashed Potatoes From Scratch

  • 1 bag of Russet potatoes
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup sour cream

Peel and dice potatoes and boil until soft, then drain. I use a stand mixer and place the stick of butter in the bottom and pour the hot potatoes on top to let it melt. Turn your mixer on to start the whipping process. Add the sour cream and milk and continue mixing. Add salt and pepper to taste.

*for smaller parties, I use half the bag and half the butter, sour cream and milk

Hopefully this will give you some inspiration for your next holiday party!

Merry Christmas, Ashley
