Master’s Viewing Party 2021

Scott and I always throw a Master’s Viewing Party. Last year’s was canceled due to covid. This year, we threw the party outside in the back of our house. Our garage is on the back side of our house and there’s an alley that backs up to the woods. There aren’t many cars that drive by so it was perfect. We opened up the garage door and projected The Master’s on one of the garage walls. We rolled out an old area rug in the driveway and surrounded it with seating. The weather was beautiful and we were lucky that it held up because it was supposed to rain. It turned out to be so successful that we plan on doing it outside again next year. I have an idea to rent couches for the driveway but we’ll have to see.

I didn’t get any pictures of myself with my husband, my children, or many of the guests. I guess that’s what happens when you’re the one throwing the party! What few pictures I did take I thought I’d share!

I ordered a small cake from our favorite bakery. The cake flavor was lemon with a lemon custard layer in between the cake layers. There wasn’t a slice left. I found this little golf cart and used it as a cake topper.

I have these apothecary jars in my bathroom full of soaps and sponges. I dumped them out and filled them with golf tees and balls for decoration. The green party cups were made two years ago with my silhouette machine. I’m finishing each party with fewer and fewer cups so I might order these for next year.

Our bar is only full of the essentials. I made the sign several years ago when we first started hosting the party and I just keep it in a box and pull it out when we need it.

I kept drinks easy and no fuss. I filled a giant tub from Pottery Barn full of waters and Arnold Palmers. Last year I made a big fancy jug of Arnold Palmer. This year I wanted to make things easy for guests to just grab.

I bought this galvanized tier at HomeGoods last year and I’ve used it for so many different holiday’s and events. I wanted the one from Pottery Barn but it was just so expensive. This one looks just the same and is a fraction of the price. The top tier were moon pies, the middle were golf cookies from the bakery and the third were the quintessential plain potato chips.

For our classic Master’s sandwiches, I bought some wax paper bags and sealed them with a sticker I made with my Silhouette machine. When we made sandwiches for our last party, we had them on a tiered tray and they got stale pretty quickly. The bags helped keep them nice and fresh throughout the party and the guests could grab them without touching all the others.

Since all the sandwiches were in bags, I had to make signs so the guests could decipher which was which. I bought the white frames from Target for $3 and just created the signs with clipart I purchased.

Even though our party was outdoors and in the garage, I wanted to make it nice. I ordered this green check tablecloth and snagged some round vases from Dollar Tree. I bought some simple grocery store flowers and just started tucking them in here and there. They added a nice touch to an otherwise un-fancy soiree.

We set up tables and chairs and another neighbor brought a space heater. The kids ran around in the backyard. Everyone brought a side dish or some booze. Everyone gathered and ate and drank (some too much). We watched the Master’s and socialized. It was a great evening and what we all needed given the last year we’ve all had. It wasn’t fancy, but the very best parties don’t have to serve champagne in crystal glasses.

Maybe this will give you some ideas on your next gathering! Until next time!
