I love throwing together snack trays for guests. The food is never ready on time when we throw a party so having something to eat is essential. I made this one for the adults for one of our gatherings but the kids ended up getting their grimy hands all over it. Nobody touched it after my kid spit out a piece of meat he didn’t like and dropped it back on the tray. This was frustrating because it was an expensive tray. But, it was pretty nonetheless and it was fun to put together.
How I make snack trays:
I usually start with bowls of small pieces, or a focal point. The focal points are on the opposite ends of the boards and in this case I used the M&M’s to start with and placed the tomato and mozzarella bowl kind of off center. From there I just start working around making stacks around the bowls. I layered the cheese and placed it around the bowls and rather than just laying my meats flat, I like to fold them and stack them so they stand. It makes it look fancier. I did the same with the crackers, layering and spreading (almost like a deck of cards). Last, I just filled in all the holes with the fruit and cookies. I finished it off with provolone cheese cut with a mini star cookie cutter.
To make the tomato basil mozzarella bowl:
Add cherry tomatoes, mozzarella pearls, fresh chopped basil, a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic to a bowl. Mix!
